Some of you may be familiar with the myth of Cassandra.
For everyone else, I’ll provide a brief summary:
Cassandra, in other words me, was given the ability to see into the future by a god – it doesn’t matter which one.
However, because she, that is I, did not wish to sleep with him, he spit into her – in other words my – mouth and punished me by making sure that no one would ever believe my predictions.

A lot has happened since then. After centuries of nights of heavy drinking as the eternal all-seeing priestess who was able to predict all proxy wars, tsunamis, and nuclear reactor accidents (all-seeing, but never heard), Cassandra has decided that enough is enough and will stop appearing in public. However, before she ends her career as a mythical figure, she is issuing one last invitation to a small farewell party for a large number of guests – more specifically a farewell concert: With the hope of never again seeing your unbelieving faces, you who did not want to believe and could not believe, thanks to Apollo’s curse. Bye, bye dear audiences. That was it – no more Cassandra.

Some details still need to be clarified, however: Which song should we play first? The one about fascism on the rise or the one about war preparedness? Why is there always war – when the last one, the one before that, and the one before that one were already so unfathomable? Does it still make sense to scream out warnings or write slogans on the wall? Or did it never make sense? Is being unsure the equivalent of bliss? After all, who really wants to find out the date on which they will die? And does one really want to know when everything here is going to end – and how it will end? If everything occurs over and over again, can’t we just skip the preliminaries and fast-forward to the end?

Author Paula Kläy, who was born in 1997 in Zürich, has written a work for RambaZamba about Cassandra as a timeless mythical figure in catastrophic times. Kläy and Rosa Rieck most recently worked together at the Münchner Kammerspiele on the production of Gigantische Einsamkeit (Gigantic Loneliness – 2025). Actress and singer Hieu Pham and musician, composer, and actor Leo Solter perform regularly together as members of the RambaZamba house band 21 downbeat. For CASSANDRA, they have created a musical happening with elements of different genres.
